Silent Hill Shattered Memories (Wii)
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a simple game which could be easily played with keys hidden in simple text language and the answers to the puzzles are spelled out clearly in text messages and voice messages. It would have been better if the developer of the game, Climax Studios had made it more difficult. The developers of this game call it to be a re imagining of the original Silent hill but one could hardly find any similarities between the two. The only similarities we find are the names of characters and locations and the plot that starts with searching the daughter. The game is good in visualization and also there is more scope of using the wii remote, but it’s not as scary as one would expect it to be.
Apart from the puzzles that are not challenging enough in this game, there is also a lack of eschew combat that degrades this game. The game is interesting some times when the player gets a chilled effect in the danger zone where the ice destroys everything it touches. The player does not have a chance to attack back but can only take defense in escaping from it and moving forward. Sometimes the player doesn’t have a chance of going where he wants to as the game is loosely coupled with maps that are useless. The map section of this game is at its worst and one will find it very difficult to gel with it especially in the night section.
Some characters pop up without any introduction and it’s very hard for players to recognize them. If a player is new to Silent hill series, then Shattered memories is not his cup of tea as it will be very confusing and frustrating. We should appreciate Climax Studios for its efforts to take the series into a new level and create a new world. There is nothing much one could expect out of this much-awaited game play in the lines of Silent Hill. The developer has faltered in many departments and could have been better if he would have maintained the original plot. By not doing it, the game has been most confusing at times and leads to frustration. One should be happy with the size of the game as it hardly takes around six hours to complete if one has a good hand in it. My personal verdict is to think twice before grabbing this game and definitely not expect much out of it, as you may be disappointed in no matter of time since you start playing.
